About Faith In Action of Western Stark County

We Serve Our Senior Community

Faith in Action of Western Stark County (FIA) was established in 1997. Formerly known as the Massillon Area Interfaith Caregivers, FIA was started with a grant from the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation. The Massillon Area Clergy Association endorses FIA’s efforts to help strengthen our community’s frail elderly population.

MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of Faith in Action of Western Stark County is to promote the independence, dignity and wellness of homebound elderly and assist their caregivers through trained and caring volunteers.

Major programs:
• The provision of free transportation services to medical appointments, shopping and personal appointments; friendly visitor, respite services and light home maintenance projects.
• Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas presents for care receivers (FIA clients).
• Annual Senior Health and Lifestyle Fair that provides important health and wellness education for seniors in the community.
• Operation of The Attic, a resale/ consignment store. High quality, gently used merchandise is sold at affordable prices to the citizens of the Massillon community. The Salvation Army and Family Living Center provide vouchers which allow their clients to obtain much needed items at no charge to them.

The organization is staffed by an executive director, administrative assistant and a store manager (all at 30 hours or less per week). The direct services are provided by volunteers. The primary goal of Faith in Action is to assist seniors that can no longer drive to remain living independently in their homes as long as possible.

The organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. FIA is a tax exempt 501C3 organization. Contributions made to FIA are tax deductible.

The operating budget is approximately $110,000. Funding comes from foundations, the City of Massillon, local congregations and individual donations. We sponsor two major fundraising events each year- a luncheon and fashion show and a health and wellness fair.
